Number of cooperatives reaches 32,375; share capital worth Rs 143.29 billion- Economic Survey

KATHMANDU: The Economic Survey for the Fiscal Year 2025/26 issued by the Ministry of Finance states that the number of registered cooperatives across the country reached 32,325 by mid-March 2026.

A total of Rs 1.029 trillion in savings has been mobilized within the cooperative sector, while 82,216 individuals have received direct employment.

By mid-March 2026, 19,903 cooperatives have been integrated into the Cooperative and Poverty Information Management System (COPOMIS), which was developed for integrated cooperative data.

By mid-July 2024, 18,897 cooperatives were integrated into COPOMIS. The National Cooperative Regulatory Authority regulates Nepal’s cooperative sector and has granted operating licenses to 834 cooperative institutions.Out of the 23 cooperative institutions declared crisis-ridden by the federal government, three institutions have been cleared/liquidated.

The asset management and liability payment for the remaining 20 cooperative institutions are still pending.

To date, a total of 80,087 claimants have registered claims worth Rs 47.60 billion across various phases.

So far, 3,688 claimants have been fully paid a total of Rs 2.54 billion in claims.

Furthermore, the survey mentions that Rs 122.3 million has been refunded to 8,763 claimants up until mid-March of the current fiscal year.
