Kathmandu, June 26: Lawmakers have drawn attention of the government on various issues of public concern in today’s meeting of the National Assembly (NA), the upper house of the Federal Parliament.
During zero hour of the meeting, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya said safe housings have not been constructed yet in the rural settlements of Jajarkot and Rukum (West) districts hit by earthquake in 2080 BS.
He demanded the government to accelerate housing construction process immediately.
Similarly, Ghan Shyam Rijal urged the government to create smooth environment by immediately adjusting the price of petrol and diesel, as development construction activities have been affected due to the price hike of petroleum products.
Padam Bahadur Pariyar stressed the need of forwarding rehabilitation programme by addressing the demands of people with low vision, objecting the government’s move of arresting them from different places of the country.
Bishnu Devi Pudasaini expressed the view that tax should not be imposed in education and health affecting the general people.
Similarly, Renu Chand demanded appropriate management of landless squatters and respect human rights.
Bishnu Kumari Sapkota argued that displacing landless squatters from holding centres was government’s wrong move while Bishnu Bahadur Bishwokarma and Shrikrishna Adhikari demanded the government to make arrangement of food and accommodation to landless squatters as per their constitutional rights.
Meanwhile, speaking in special hour of today’s meeting, Urmila Aryal drew government’s attention to resume operation of different industries including Birgunj sugar mill.
Presenting the fact that the demand of sugar is increasing in the country, its domestic production is low and black marketing is taking place, she asked the government for its appropriate management on time.
Aryal mentioned that sugarcane and sugar have one per cent contribution in gross domestic products and 100,000 people have involved in direct employment, adding Birgunj sugar mill should be brought into operation making it multipurpose.
Similarly, Ram Kumari Jhakri viewed that the government’s move of arresting people, who have been making a living by performing songs and music in the street, was wrong.
She also demanded to investigate into September 8 and 9 movement by forming a judicial committee under coordination of sitting justice.
Presenting the fact that groundwater is being overexploited in different districts of Tarai, Puja Chaudhary asked for appropriate arrangement of water.
She also stressed the need of appropriate arrangement of landless squatters of different places of the country and addressing their demands.
