Election related two bills passed

Kathmandu, May 26: Two bills related to elections have been unanimously passed by the House of Representatives.

In the HoR meeting held on Tuesday, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, on the behalf of Prime Minister, Home Minister and Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Balendra Shah, presented the proposal seeking endorsement of the bills.

The bills approved by the lower house are ‘House of Representatives Members Election (First Amendment) Bill’, 2083 and ‘ Voter Name List (First Amendment) Bill, 2083. 

The bills were presented to replace the ordinances related to election law amendment brought by the then government for the HoR election held on March 5.

Taking part in the clause-wise discussion on ‘HoR Member Election (First Amendment) Bill, 2083, Prem Bahadur Bayek urged the government to further ensure the participation of people with disabilities in the proportional representation electoral system. 

The HoR will meet next at 11:00 am tomorrow (Wednesday).
