Sri Lanka approves 71-mln-USD investment in rural poverty alleviation projects

COLOMBO, May 12 : Sri Lanka has approved development projects worth 23 billion rupees (about 71.4 million U.S. dollars) under a national rural poverty alleviation program, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said in a statement.

The projects were approved under the “Prajashakthi” National Poverty Alleviation Program, and have been forwarded to district secretaries for implementation, read the statement on Monday.

The program is a flagship government initiative aimed at reducing rural poverty and improving living standards in rural communities, the PMD said.
